installation with guqin sound collage
duration 20:06
directional speaker, cargo net

A sound collage that can be heard while suspended, sitting in a cargo net hammock.
Curator Kitt Peacock asked me to think through ‘drone’ in the sonic register, for the exhibition Small Gods, at Access Gallery in Vancouver.

Played on the 古琴 guqin — ‘ancient string instrument’ — the sound emerges from a process of working with suspension and resonance. Listening for the instrument’s resonance, attuning myself to the empty space of hovering; playing by waiting.

An attempt to invert our relation of instrumentality by shifting focus to the connective in-between where all things are in mutual resonance.
